iPhone X, XS, 11 Pro, iPhone 12 OLED Screens, an explanation.

Table of Contents

If you have cracked the display on your iPhone X and are looking for a repair, we recommend asking what quality of screen the shop uses. The shop should always know the different types of display that are on offer.

The iPhone X, iPhone XS and XS Max phones have OLED displays out of the box. OLED Displays that give a better quality of iPhone Display. The OLED screen provides a narrow border to the screen. The iPhone OLED Screen also has Truetone that adjusts the colours in the display to the ambient light around you.

The Cheapest aftermarket LCD display cost around £70 to £80.00

When we repair your cracked iPhone X XS screen, we use Soft OLED replacements like these is the best we can buy to repair your smashed iPhone screen.

There are many different types of iPhone X / XS displays, and we will try to explain the difference here.

Original Apple OLED iPhone X / XS Display - Apple do not sell parts.

There are three basic ways to get an original Apple OLED Display, and the first is… Go to Apple and get the screen replaced. The second way to get an original Apple iPhone XS Screen is to buy one removed from another. iPhone XS. However, this screen could be over two years old. The third way to get an original Apple Screen is to buy a refurbished display. A third party refurbishes a cracked iPhone X screen. The cracked glass iPhone display glass is repaired using special equipment, This gives an original Apple display, but again the screen could be a couple of years old.

Let us come back to True Tone. True Tone is Apple’s System of maintaining the screen’s white balance in every ambient light situation.

The True Tone setting in the screen was programmed in the factory, which posed a problem to repair shops until recently. We now read the True Tone DATA from the original display and write it to the new OLED display.
Our repair process helps to maintain the colours and white balance on display, keeping the new screen as close to the original as possible.

If you’re offered a cheap iPhone X or iPhone XS display repair, then the chances are that the screen is either an Incell Screen (LCD) or a Hard OLED.

LCD - Liquid Crystal Display

LCD displays are a cheap alternative to OLED. Apple never designed the then iPhone X to carry an LCD. It was designed to have an OLED display. The market is flooded with LCDs made to work on this device. The disadvantages of LCD over OLED is that the display will look poor, have a larger border around the display and bad viewing angles. Together with a thicker display and a reduction in battery life, We Fix BCR will. not fit these displays.

The iPhone X/XS iPhone LCD display offers a price advantage over the OLED iPhone display.

When you have your iPhone X screen repaired always ask the repair shop what screen they will be fitting. Some shops will not fit LCD displays to the iPhone X where others will so as you are calling around for prices there may be a vast difference between the prices you get back. Obviously, a £50 price difference would tell you that you are being quoted for an inferior LCD display.

Hard OLED iPhone X/XS Display Screens

OLED An organic light-emitting diode.

Apple started using OLED panels in the Apple Watch in 2015 and then used OLED in the MacBook Pro Touchbar in 2016. Apple then introduced the OLED display in the iPhone X in 2017. The OLED technology has the advantage of less power consumption, thinner and brighter, crisper and clearer display with better viewing angles.. The disadvantages are the cost. OLED displays cost a lot more than LCD iPhone display.

Hard OLED is manufactured, as the name implies, as a rigid, non-flexible panel. These hard OLED panels are a cheaper alternative to Soft OLED screens.

The advantages are the cost. The Hard LED displays to work just as well as the Soft OLED panels.

The disadvantages. Because Hard OLED is non-flexible, the screen cannot shape as well into the edge of the screen area, and this will give your iPhone a thicker border around the edge of the display. Because Hard OLED is rigid, it can break easier, usually from the edge of the screen. For this reason, we will not repair the iPhone X / iPhone XS Screen using Hard OLED

Soft OLED iPhone X/XS Display Screens

Soft OLED means that the display is flexible and adhered to a thin plastic substrate. The OLED remains flexible until bonded to the front glass. A smooth OLED screen has several advantages over a Hard OLED iPhone Display.

  • The border around the edge of the display is narrower
  • The Soft OLED is flexible, so less likely to break
  • The soft OLED gives perfect viewing angles

The Soft OLED screen is the best choice in aftermarket iPhone Screen repairs as it is close to the original quality.

Conclusion

If you call around all of the repair shops in your area for a price on an iPhone X screen repair or any other model of iPhone that uses OLED screen technology, you need to know what quality of display you will be purchasing. For instance, if one shop quotes you a substantially lower price than another, you are probably quoted for a lower-quality screen.

Another scenario is when you are quoted at the top end of the price range and supplied with a lower quality display. Therefore always ask what quality of iPhone Screen Repair you are getting.

Ask the question, LCD, Hard OLED, Soft OLED, or refurbished original. If the repair shop does not know the answer, then avoid that shop.
